New review of Gateskin Chronicles 4: Search for the Medallion!

I was thrilled to receive another review of my latest book: Search for the Medallion: Gateskin Chronicles! Thank you, reader Trish, for your lovely review. It is appreciated!

Here is the review by Trish:

The adventures continue for King Gateskin and his incredible family!  Visitors arrive from a neighboring kingdom with questions of an intriguing Legend of the Lost Medallion.  Do they come in peace?  Or are they determined to do whatever it takes to find the medallion and use it for their own purposes which may be good or evil.  The King and his family will do what they must to protect their people and their kingdom. These characters are all so different and amazing in their abilities.  Very enjoyable read, leaving the reader wondering what is to come next in this series!

If you are looking for an epic fantasy, magic, action and adventures, unusual creatures, dragons, you have found the right series with Gateskin Chronicles. This series will keep you engrossed and swiftly turning pages as there is something always happening with plenty of surprises and magic.

King Gateskin must be vigilant to protect his land and people when another creature threatens to cause harm. He fears for his land when visitors come asking about the lost Medallion which he knows is still buried somewhere in his village of Sovorotskina. Some of these visitors from a far-off island come in peace while another threatens the safety of Noella Province with her Dark Magic. The King must enlist all the help he can muster to protect not only his village but all of Noella Province from Peril.King Kaposkaran of Parotovina once again is a nuisance rather than a help to the other rulers of the lands in the province. He is only concerned about his own problems. Will King Kaposkaran be a hindrance or a way for the evil to enter Noella Province once again? Will King Gateskin be able to conjure up enough magic to save them all?

Here is what other readers are saying about this book:

I am now working on two books – Book 4 of Gateskin Chronicles and book 4 of Branyrd the Angel Series. I like to write two books simultaneously from time to time when I feel the creativity flowing in two directions. These two series are completely different and keep my mind sparking with new ideas.

In the meantime, please check out this series above but remember to begin at the beginning – book 1. It’s always best to get a feel for the characters and storyline by doing this. I promise you will not be disappointed once you begin the story. The characters are interesting, intriguing and captivating as well as the strange characters, some good while others are not. There is plenty of evil characters who are threatening the safety of Noelle Province that keep King Gateskin ever vigilant. Visit with King Gateskin and the world of fantasy for an enjoyable adventure sure to whet your appetite for more. More is coming late in 2024 and 2025.

Deck is all set for enjoying!

My husband put together the furniture on the back deck in preparation for outdoor dining. But with all the pollen and tree spores it is not comfortable for allergies.

It looks beautiful though and we do enjoy sitting outside with a cup of coffee or tea, or wine and other mixed drinks to relax and watch the birds.

Pond greening up

It’s so peaceful here and helps me to unwind after the latest WIP. I will work on the next book in between relaxing in this beautiful weather we have been blessed with while it lasts.

I love photographing flowers closeup. They are fascinating. I hope you like them too.

Here is a visitor, a Baltimore Oriole, while we ate here cooking on our electric grill.

Our new electric grill – got to get used to it – but like it!

Thank you much for stopping by to read this post and for your kind support! Cone back again soon!

Gateskin Chronicles Book 3 Search for the Medallion is now here in Paperback!

Here it is in paperback format. The cover was created by my husband John. This book has some new creatures – DRAGONS! I have mentioned before that I love dragons! I think you will love these colorful dragons who have different personalities so that you will be able to distinguish between them easily. I didn’t mention them until now because I wanted them to be a surprise to anyone who reads this book.

The King must enlist all the help he can muster to protect not only his village but all of Noella Province from peril.

King Kaposkaran of Parotovina once again is a nuisance rather than a help to the other rulers of the lands in the province. He is only concerned about his own problems. Will King Kaposkaran be a hindrance or a way for the evil to enter Noella Province once again? Will King Gateskin be able to conjure up enough magic to save them all?

Here is a lovely new review!

Mysteries Abound in Sovorotskina

Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2024

I’ve read many books by Janice Spina, and though I’m not usually a fan of series and prefer stand-alone books, the Gateskin Chronicles have me hooked. I anxiously await each book in the series to discover what mysterious happenings are in store for King Gateskin, his wife, Queen Solinara, and their three children in the Land of Goodness and Light, otherwise known as Sovorotskina in Noella Province.
All the characters have very unusual names, just as the various Kingdoms do. What I loved about Search For the Medallion, as well as the other books in the series, are the imaginative names for everyone and everything, the conjuring up of creatures, and fantastic talking dragons, and the spells that are cast. Even the children have powers. There are both good and evil characters and creatures with powers to do harm or good. The author’s creativity is nothing short of amazing.
Though the Gateskin Chronicles are intended for the 13-17-year-old audience, I can attest that adults will also enjoy them.

If you haven’t read the other two books in this series, now is the time to get caught up and LET THE ADVENTURES BEGIN! I promise you that there is plenty of action and adventure to keep you turning pages. It is an epic fantasy that has wizards, fairies, Sprites, strange creatures good and bad, and talking dragons that you will fall in love with. The lands and people have unusual names but don’t worry I put a complete and comprehensive glossary in the front of the book to keep you informed in case you forget one character or another. I used it all the time myself. Haha!

Watch for a new book trailer that will be coming out soon of this book!

Writing this series has been a great adventure for me. I was along for a wild ride but didn’t know that at the time I began the first book. The characters popped out of thin air, dove in to claim their places, and pushed me along to write their stories as they competed repeatedly nearly driving me crazy! More and more creatures appeared and tried to take over the story. I had to rein them in a lot but it was such fun!

I hope you will enjoy reading this series as much as I enjoyed writing it. Please come back again soon for more books, reviews, and whatever else pops into my already crowded head.

Thank you for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please remember to write reviews for books you love or not to help hard-working authors out there spread word about their work. Your efforts to do this enable authors to keep writing to provide entertaining material for you to read. We thank you.

A great place to go – Flag Hill Winery!

My son and daughter-in-law took me to Flag Hill Winery in Lee, NH for Mother’s Day this year 2024. It was an enjoyable day with an eclectic selection of breakfast and lunch choices. It was amazing! I felt like I had died and gone to food Heaven! We were seated in a tent that was opened on the sides. I kept my jacket on since it was a little cool.

I had to do a post about this fabulous place even though it is after Mother’s Day because it was so memorable. Here is a link to learn more about this amazing place.

Here are some of the photos of the tables with the myriad tasty items. I went back three times – once for breakfast items, then for lunch choices and last for dessert. Once seated they filled our glasses with champagne and kept it coming throughout the meal! I had two glasses. It was delicious! Also you could add different juices – orange, strawberry coconut, and others to your champagne making it a mimosa. I didn’t do that. I drank my champagne straight up!

They had everything you could imagine from quiche to pizza. They had beef Wellington, breaded chicken, and more things that I didn’t even try. There were also plenty of choices for those who did not eat meat – grilled veggies, cucumber slices with yogurt, dill and feta (delicious), veggie pasta, and more. For kids they had pizza, Mac & cheese, pasta, meatballs, donuts, bacon, sausages, home fries, pancakes stuffed with blueberries, etc. Too many things to list here. They also had tea or delicious coffee, regular or decaf with espresso cream! It was all fabulous in such a lovely setting.

There were many young children running around the greens having a grand time with parents chasing them. It was truly a family atmosphere.

They even had some entertainment while we ate! He was very good!

Here are some views of the grounds which will be more beautiful when the vines are greening up. I think they look pretty good on this beautiful spring day!

My son will be going back and offered to bring us in the summer to see how beautiful it is for a meal with different wines. I can’t wait!!

I thanked them so much again and again for making my Mother’s Day so special!! I am blessed to have a wonderful son and daughter-in-law. My son’s youngest son was there with us. My other two grandsons, one in college and the oldest one now married, were unable to come with us. The youngest one is going to college also this fall to join his older middle brother. My son will have an empty nest now and I’m sure he can’t wait! Haha!

If you are ever in the vicinity of Flag Hill Winery you need to check it out. It is well worth the trip. You will have to go to the website and make reservations. They are quite busy. They also have a store where you can purchase wines and other things from their farm.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post. I hope you enjoyed seeing my photos and learning about this wonderful place to visit. Hope your Mother’s Day was special too!

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Gateskin Chronicles Book 3 Search for the Medallion is now here in Kindle format! Paperback coming 5/15/24!

Begin with book 1 and LET THE ADVENTURES BEGIN! For those of you who have already read books 1 & 2, here is book 3 for your enjoyment! I hope you love it as much as the other books. Watch for book 4 coming hopefully before Christmas or after New Year 2025.

I introduced some new characters in this latest edition to Gateskin Chronicles. I didn’t mention them in my blurb nor did I hint about these creatures but thought you might like to know that I introduced three colorful dragons in this adventure that will delight readers who love dragons like I do. These dragons have distinct personalities and are quite entertaining. They came into the story out of the blue. I never expected to have dragons in this series but now that they are here I love them. I hope you will too!

They requested to be in the next installment. Sigh! I haven’t even thought about what I was going to write. They are already taking over the story. I guess I will just be along for the ride once again, but what a wild and fun ride!

I received my first review of this new book. Here it is on Amazon:

5.0 out of 5 stars New visitors to the village of Sovorotskina

Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2024

Once again King Kaposkaran of Parotovina & his wife are being nuisances again to King Gateskin & his village. While King Gateskin tries to deal with this, new visitors come to Gateskin’s village out of curiosity. They became a big help when the Catlings were getting out of control. Toss in someone with Dark Magic trying to get her hands on the Medallion, & poor King Gateskin & his family really have their hands full trying to restore order. The cliffhanger at the end makes a great lead-in for the next Book! What a wonderful, fun book! Excited for the next book in this series.

If you haven’t read any of the books in this series, here is the first one to whet your appetite for adventures, magic, wizards, fairies, Sprites, and all kinds of strange creatures. I promise you it will be an adventure you won’t forget! Happy reading!

Here are some reviews of Books 1 & 2 on Amazon:

This series is an epic fantasy for YA and adults too. You will find magic, wizards, fairies, Sprites, and unusual creatures that roam the land and threaten to harm all those who venture too close. It is the constant struggle of good again evil where the strongest will prevail. Are you ready to take your first step into King Gateskin’s world? Once you enter you will be unable to leave for you will be hooked! Enter carefully and keep your eyes open for there could be a creature behind you right now!

Check out these trailers I created using Animoto.com.

Baltimore Orioles (Birds) are here!

I was happy to see that the Baltimore Oriole birds are now here right after the hummingbirds. Of course I had to snap some photos as always of these beautiful birds. They truly are colorful and a pleasure to see once again.

These photos are of a male who is bright orange while the female is a paler shade of orange. I haven’t seen a female yet but I’m sure she is close by. They usually take turns eating with the female in second place. Something is wrong here!

They are attracted by the orange feeder and the grape jelly. They will not eat grape jam or any other flavors. Thanks to my husband, they eat well. He always keeps a large jar of grape jelly on hand. I prefer grape jam myself. Ha!

I enjoy seeing these birds as well as all the others and have to thank John for taking the time to attract them to our feeders with all the tasty seeds. If it was up to me I wouldn’t be doing all this – too busy with my writing and other stuff.

Now back to my WIP and the final edit before publishing. Sigh!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Come back again soon for more news about upcoming books, reviews and whatever else pops into my overcrowded head.

Happy Mother’s Day 2024!

I’ve already shared my Mother’s Day from 2023. Today I am sharing my Mother’s Day from 2024.

My daughter and granddaughter came to visit me on Saturday with a lovely bouquet of flowers, dragonfly earrings and a beautiful card! My grandson was sick and couldn’t be here.

On Mother’s Day my son and daughter-in-law and one of my three grandsons took John and I to a Mother’s Day Brunch at Flag Hill Winery in Lee, NH. When we arrived there was already a line at 11:05 am. It opens at 11:00 for this brunch. It was absolutely wonderful with an eclectic choice of foods. I had a fabulous time picking and choosing my foods from breakfast to lunch additions. The place was sold out and well worth it. Here are a few photos of the place, and of John and I on the grounds that were massive with all the vines which are not greening up yet. I plan to dedicate a post just to this place. I highly recommend it for a lovely day with the family. They offer more brunches over the summer months.

Petunia plant on top from my son & family

It was another special Mother’s Day just to be remembered by my children and grandchildren. Each day with my children and grandchildren is a gift to me. I feel blessed and grateful to have them all.

I hope all the mothers out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day full of family, love and all good things. Blessings to you all.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Books for MG/PT/YA in all multi-genres!

I have written books for all ages and in multi-genres in the hope that I can encourage all ages to read daily for their good health and wellbeing. I know how important it is that children read daily and I will continue to do all I can to intrigue them with my books.

Promo by BMGN
Promo by BMGN

These two series were so much fun to write. They made me feel like a kid again experiencing all the different things that kids at that age experience – friendship is important, bullying can be harmful, family matters and kindness to others is how we learn to respect one another’s differences.

I had to think like a young boy when I wrote Davey & Derek and like a girl in Abby & Holly. It was more difficult thinking like a boy, of course, but I learned things about boys that way in how they might think differently about a situation than girls do. It was exhilarating to write about young people for a change but not as young as my other children’s books for PS-Grade 3. I gave the MG/PT more grownup situations to handle. I hope your kids will love these series as much as I did writing them.

PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK AWARDS – HONORABLE MENTION!

Davey and Derek Donato are twins, but not identical, who love to play detective. They are always ready for adventure living in the sleepy little town of Lindon where nothing happens. The twins overhear about a sixth grader who lost her cell phone. The fifth grader twins kick into detective mode to solve their first case with the help of their friend, Mickey Catonni, aka cat. Things don’t seem to add up when a bully gets into the mix.

PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK AWARDS – BRONZE MEDAL!

This is Book 1 of a series of Abby & Holly books. These two girls were first introduced in Book 5 of the Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series.
The girls are first cousins on their mothers’ side. They moved to the quiet town of Lindon, New Hampshire and live in a grand old Victorian which is haunted.
The cousins are excited about attending the 6th grade dance. When their friend, Justine, is bullied, Abby and Holly, along with the help of a ghost and Davey & Derek, work together to formalize a plan to put a stop to the bullying.

All my children’s books including middle-grade, preteen and even young adults carry important life lessons. if you want your children to love reading introduce them to my two series – Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series Books 1-6, Abby & Holly Series Books 1-6. These two series are enjoyed by both boys and girls and adults too!

Once kids begin these series they will be hooked and want to read more. There is plenty to intrigue them – magic, a witch, warlocks, a black cat, ghosts, time travel, a haunted house, anti-bullying and mysteries and surprises.

Reading is important not only to keep your children’s reading levels up all year long but also it can increase their vocabulary, spark their creativity, enhance their health and wellbeing and encourage them to become lovers of books. Let’s bring up a generation of readers and thinkers who will become successful and confident adults one day.

My goal in writing for MG/PT/YA is to encourage all ages to read daily to enhance their creativity, increase their vocabulary and enable them to live healthier and happier lives. Keep reading and I will keep writing. Thank you! Happy Reading!

MG/PT/YA books are available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

This Abby & Holly Series has won 8 Book Awards – 6 Pinnacle Book Achievement Awards and 2 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards – Bronze Medal, and an Honorable Mention!

Abby & Holly Series Books 1-6 with 8 awards (promo by John
Spina)

This Davey & Derek Series won (11 book awards) – 5 Pinnacle Book Achievement Awards, 3 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards – an Honorable Mention, a Silver Medal, and a Finalist, a Book Excellence Award Finalist, a Silver Medal in the Authorsdb Cover Contest, Top Shelf Awards – First Place and Finalist in Red City Review Book Awards and many 5-Star Reviews from Readers’ Favorite Book Awards.

Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series is a fun and magical series with spells, wands, a black cat, good witches, time travel, ghost hunting and more. There are also life lessons that include being kind, caring and respectful toward others, listening to parents, being helpful and doing chores, and bullying is never tolerated or accepted. Parents love this series too! When your MG/PT/YA read these books, you will rest easy that they are reading good, clean and wholesome books. What more could you want in a book for your children? Parents are reading and enjoying them too!

Here is what readers are saying about these series in AllAuthor.com promos.

If you haven’t introduced your kids to these two series, now is the time to get them reading and having fun solving mysteries with the twins and cousins. Parents – you may want to read them too and please leave a review on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Do you think I should write some more books like these? I do have another MG/PT series in my mind that is still brewing there until I complete two other series that I am currently working on. Stay tuned for more. There is always something brewing at Jemsbooks!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support of my blog and books. Please spread word about my books to family and friends. This helps me stay motivated to continue to write entertaining stories for all ages. Thank you!

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Happy Mother’s Day! Blessings to all Mothers out there!

Here is a post I have sent in the past and wanted to share again since it says it all for Mothers everywhere. God bless all mothers on their special day!

This year 2023 my son and family will be taking me to a Mother’s Day brunch. I am writing this before the day but will share with you in an addendum how special I’m sure it will be. I am blessed to have such a kind, wonderful and thoughtful son who always remembers his mother. I am thankful. He is a special son.

Happy Mother’s Day (This lovely painting was created by my granddaughter, Leah for me a few years ago!)

I hope all mothers out there have a wonderful day. It’s your day – may all your loved ones make it special in every way!

Each Mother’s Day I miss my mother even more. I wrote this poem many years ago and it says everything about her and how special she was.

My mom, Beatrice

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!

By Janice Spina

You were always there for me

To guide and pave the way.

You bandaged my scraped knees.

You hugged and kissed the hurt away.

You listened when I needed an ear

To solve a problem you were always there.

You taught me right from wrong

and soothed me to sleep with a sweet song.

When I was sick you stroked my fevered brow.

and slept by me as long as time would allow.

You have been gone now for many a year

but in my heart I hold you forever near.

I miss and think of you every single day.

But I know I will join you when our Lord calls me His way.

Red Roses for all mothers out there
Apple pie for Mom!
